Google removed 247.4 million advertisements from its platform in India in 2024 and suspended 2.9 million advertiser accounts, the company reported in its 2024 Ads Safety Report.

The report identified five leading violations driving the removals: financial services, trademark misuse, ad network abuse, personalized advertising breaches and gambling or gaming-related content.

Worldwide, Google suspended 39.2 million advertiser accounts, pulled 5.1 billion ads and placed restrictions on 9.1 billion ads across its network, according to the report.

Google also became the first major company to require labeling of AI-generated content in political advertisements, aiming to boost transparency in election campaigns.

In the run-up to elections in multiple countries last year, Google verified 8,900 new election advertisers and removed 10.7 million ads from unverified accounts.

The company issued more than 30 updates to its Ads and Publisher policies in 2024 to address emerging risks and refine enforcement measures.

To speed detection of violations, Google rolled out over 50 enhancements to its large language models. These changes helped flag fake accounts, identify fraudulent payment details and detect impersonation attempts.

A team of more than 100 specialists also reworked the misrepresentation policy, resulting in the permanent suspension of over 700,000 advertiser accounts promoting scam content.

Google said it will continue to evolve its systems and work with partners to maintain a secure environment for users and advertisers on its platform.
